ULTRASOUND (SONOGRAM)

An ultrasound exam is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to scan different parts of the body.  A traditional ultrasound involves placing gel on your abdomen to work as a conductor for the sound waves.  A transducer is used to produce the sound waves.  The sound waves bounce off structures in the body and return black and white images to the machine.

In our office, we perform transabdominal ultrasound examinations.  Your physician may order this exam to evaluate your liver, gallbladder, pancreas and other abdominopelvic organs.
